Bridging the Digital Divide, One Child at a Time.

When the COVID-19 forced classrooms to shift online, education suddenly became dependent on access to digital devices and the internet. While many adapted quickly, for children in Dharavi, attending school online became a privilege rather than a right.

In households where even a single smartphone is shared among multiple family members, uninterrupted access to education was nearly impossible. For many students, this meant falling behind—not due to lack of ability, but lack of access.

Recognizing this growing digital divide, Dharavi Foundation, in collaboration with Centre for Transforming India, initiated a tab distribution drive to support underprivileged school children. Through this initiative, 200 students were provided with tablets, enabling them to attend online classes, access study material, and continue their education without disruption.

Behind this effort was a dedicated team of volunteers who worked closely within the community to identify children most in need. Their on-ground engagement ensured that the support reached those who would benefit from it the most.

Amir was struggling to attend online classes because we had only one phone at home, which his father used for work. After receiving a tablet from Dharavi Foundation, it became much easier for him to study and attend his classes regularly
